Reece James is living proof that even the best players in the world can have a shocker.
The Chelsea defender is regarded as one of the best right-backs on the planet due to his defensive stability and quality moving into the final third.
However things unraveled in comical fashion during the club’s first pre-season clash.
Chelsea were competing against Club America in Nevada, USA when the 22-year-old had a moment to forget.
The Blues were in the lead following Timo Werner’s opener after 55 minutes, but just five minutes later James was with his head in his hands.
Thomas Tuchel’s side were looking to play themselves out of danger when the ball came to James on the corner of the penalty area.
Without lifting his head, the full-back attempted to play the ball back to goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
Unfortunately his pass was somewhat misjudged.
With Bettinelli admittedly out of position, James’ pass was out of reach for the goalkeeper as he rolled past him and into the back of the net.
Thankfully James’ blushes were spared before the end of the match as Mason Mount found the back of the net to give the Blues a 2-1 victory.
Among those to impress for Chelsea were loan stars Conor Gallagher and Ethan Ampadu, who spent last term away from the club with Crystal Palace and Venezia respectively.
