Anyone who thought the days of Beckham curling a free-kick into the back of the net are gone are mistaken.

While it’s not David who has turned back the clock, his son, Romeo, is showing he’s a chip off the old block.

The 19-year-old is showing early signs of following in his father’s footsteps by scoring his first goal for Inter Miami II in their clash with rivals Orlando City.

Beckham’s talent has been known for some time after spending time with Arsenal’s youth academy, but it now seems he is fully capable of becoming a star in his own right.

Turning out for the reserve team of Inter Miami, which his dad owns, Romeo was given responsibility for a free-kick 25 yards from goal.

With a run-up that had stark similarities with his father, Beckham stepped up and curled the ball over the top of the wall and out of reach of the goalkeeper who could do little to keep it out of his net.

Running off in celebration, he was swamped by his teammates who were clearly delighted to see him showing his quality.

However, it wasn’t just on the pitch that he attracted plaudits.

Taking to social media after the game, David Beckham shared an Instagram story of his son scoring his free-kick.

He wrote: “Well done mate so proud. First goal in a MIAMI shirt.”

As well as resharing a number of messages from his Inter Miami teammates, Romeo then had a special message for his dad.

He wrote: “Love u [sic] dad, that was for you.”
