Jack Wilshire has made a sensational return to Arsenal having been appointed head coach of their under-18 side.
It’s taken just three days for him to get a job since he announced his retirement from playing, with the club he played for for 17 years as a youth and senior player.
Wilshere had left the Gunners back in 2018 and went on to have stints at West Ham, Bournemouth and then, most recently, on to Danish Superliga club AGF.
However, AGF opted not to extend Wilshere‘s contract past the end of last season, leading him to announce his retirement from professional football.
Now, though, it’s been announced Wilshere will return to the club where he made a name for himself – this time, as head coach of the under-18s.
Wilshere, who worked with the club’s young players last season, told Arsenal’s official website: “It’s a huge honour to have this role.
“It’s no secret that I love this club. I love what we stand for and a big part of my life was spent in this academy, some of the best days of my life. This is a big opportunity for me and I’m ready.
“I’m hungry and can’t wait to help these young players thrive and be the best they can be on and off the pitch.
“It’s a special feeling to be part of the Arsenal family. It never left me and, even though I moved on for a few years, my heart was always still at Arsenal.
“I can’t wait to get started and help these young players thrive with a great team around me.”
Wilshere made 197 appearances for the Gunners and was part of the sides that won the 2014 and 2015 FA Cup.
