A wild brawl has allegedly broken out at a cemetery in front of grieving families after two funeral directors began quarrelling when they arrived at the graveyard at the same time.
Horrified mourners were burying loved ones at Rookwood Cemetery, in Sydney’s inner-west, on Saturday when the alleged punch-on unfolded around 11am.
Witnesses told 2GB Radio Paul Lahood Jr., who runs a self-titled funeral service in Greenacre, turned up outside the Catholic Office, on Barnet Avenue, at the same time as John Francis, from Granville-based Sympathy Funerals.
Under standard operations, funeral cars must check into the deceased’s respective office before a vehicle from the cemetery leads the hearse and the rest of the procession to the grave.

Witnesses say the funeral directors started arguing after turning up at the Catholic office at the same time
As the funeral directors checked in, the pair began arguing and Mr Lahood allegedly approached Mr Francis as he sat in a car and punched him in the face, leaving him with a bleeding lip and nose.
‘It was horrible,’ one witness told the broadcaster.
‘The priest was sitting beside the man that was allegedly injured. It was disrespectful and disgraceful.’
Both companies and NSW Police confirmed to 2GB there was an incident at the cemetery on Saturday.
Police said officers were called to the cemetery to reports of an assault, where they were told a a 57-year-old man had been allegedly punched to the face multiple times by another man following a verbal altercation.

‘Following inquiries, police arrested a 35-year-old man about 3pm at Auburn Police Station,’ they said.
‘He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm; and common assault and was given bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on 28 July 2022.
‘It’s believed the pair is known to each other.’
