Paul Pogba has been ‘mismanaged’ during his time at Manchester United, believes Jason Cundy, who suggested the Frenchman would’ve had a much better Premier League career under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
This comes after reports on Wednesday stated that the Frenchman could make a shock switch to a Premier League rival this summer when his contract at Man United expires in the summer.
Having signed for the Red Devils for a mind-boggling £89million in 2016, the midfielder could be set to leave the club on a free transfer after a disappointing spell in Manchester.
And Cundy questions whether the 29-year-old midfielder has been ‘let down’ since arriving at the club for his second spell, and wondered whether he would have thrived under a manager like Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
“I just wonder whether he’s been let down, if he’s been mismanaged, or mis-coached,” Cundy said on talkSPORT Drive.
“I just wonder, under a better manager, could we have potentially seen a better Pogba? I think the managerial situation [has affected him].
“Under Klopp, he wouldn’t [hold the ball], look at what Klopp has done for [Jordan] Henderson.
“Henderson has turned out to be one of the most consistent, solid midfielders in the Premier League, and Klopp has got that out of him.”
Cundy went on to say that he doesn’t believe that Pogba would currently get into Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City’s starting XI.
But the former defender believes that he would improve a team like Newcastle, with the Magpies now flush for cash and looking to improve squad in the summer.
“He can’t get into those top teams,” Cundy said.
“I’ve not seen enough, but that doesn’t mean to say that he can’t improve some teams.
“There’s a couple of Premier League clubs that we believe are interested and it wouldn’t surprise me if [Antonio] Conte’s looking at that situation.
He added: “Where’s he going to go that’s really going to elevate his career? He’s a free transfer.”
His co-host, Andy Goldstein, asked: “Newcastle?”
Cundy responded: “Well, Newcastle will be looking at that and thinking, ‘He improves us.’”
If he can’t find a move to another Premier League club, perhaps Pogba could make a move to the EFL?
However, a move to Wigan could be off the table with one fan insisting that the World Cup winner would make the League One Latics ‘worse’!
Wigan fan Eugene said: “I wouldn’t put Paul Pogba in the Wigan team – he’d make it worse!
“The amount of passion that the players put in, week in, week out, you just wouldn’t see it from Paul Pogba.”
“He doesn’t work hard enough,” he added.
“Especially at this level, you need players who really work and put a shift in.”
Cundy and Goldstein, unsurprisingly, weren’t convinced.
