Borussia Dortmund advisor hints Erling Haaland will join Man City with deadline set for clubs to trigger £63m release clause

Manchester City look set to beat both Real Madrid and Barcelona to Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland.

The 21-year-old is expected to decide his future in the next few weeks, with his £63million release clause set to expire on April 30, according to reports.

Haaland’s fee will increase substantially if no deal is in place by May 1, according to Bild.

The German publication also claim that a transfer to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City is ‘imminent’ and the club will pay his release clause.

Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer recently hinted in a TV appearance with Amazon Prime, the Norway international is likely to head to the Premier League and join the Sky Blues.

Sammer claimed how Haaland would be working with Guardiola and potentially let slip that the transfer is essentially a forgone conclusion.

He did eventually backtrack after saying he heard nothing new about the deal potentially being completed.

“I’m very excited to see how the Guardiola-Haaland combination will work if it comes to that”, co-host Mario Gomez said to Sammer.

The Dortmund legend replied saying: “They will both benefit from each other. Because Pep, of course – I was able to experience him for three years – has a certain idea.

“I can also imagine dealing with a centre-forward, no question. But he will also have to learn from the centre-forward.”

Sammer was asked if a deal for Haaland to join City had already been done.

“I don’t know. I was fully focused on this match (Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid).”

“I didn’t hear anything today, yesterday, the day before yesterday. I know City is after him. The numbers – I had whiplash! I passed out. My wife picked me up again. Accordingly, it is possible.”

Guardiola’s side have emerged as frontrunners for Haaland over the past couple of weeks, ahead of both Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Having missed out on Harry Kane last summer, City are desperate for a traditional striker and Haaland is likely to be their man.
