The hunt for this season’s Premier League title is a two-horse race again between the powerhouses of Manchester City and Liverpool.
City suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat to Tottenham recently and were then held by Crystal Palace to a goalless draw.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have won eight league games on the bounce and the results have reignited the title race once more.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds still have a game in hand on their rivals and will reduce the gap to the top to just one point if they can beat an in-form Arsenal this week.
Many had thought reigning champions City were running away with the league this season but the title race is clearly far from over.
Both sides still have a number of games remaining this term but one fixture stands out over all others – Man City vs Liverpool in mid-April.
The Merseysiders will travel to the Etihad on Sunday, April 10.
Such is the magnitude of the match, the game has taken the headline 4:30pm slot on the Sunday.
The two great rivals drew 2-2 in an Anfield thriller in October.
Phil Foden canceled out Sadio Mane’s opener on the day before a Mohamed Salah special put Liverpool ahead.
But Kevin De Bruyne smashed home late on to secure a point for Pep Guardiola and co.
Liverpool have only beaten City once in their last eight encounters and drew 1-1 in Manchester last season.
A victory at the Etihad this term will be vital for Klopp and co but the Reds haven’t won there in the league since a 4-1 success in November 2015.
Klopp has insisted his side will do all they can to catch and overtake City in the remaining games this term.
He said: “The plan is to be as annoying as possible. We have to win our games, you know that, but we are very ambitious and determined to do great stuff.
“We have 10 games to play and there’s a few really tough ones. They are all tough.
“Can we win all 10 games? It doesn’t sound likely, but we will give it a try.”
Guardiola was quizzed about the title race following his side’s defeat to Spurs.
He said: “It’s normal [to lose]. Especially in the Premier League. Everyone fights for everything so it will be difficult. We know it.
“Today happened, we lost a game, we were close to a draw, maybe a win. Congratulations to Tottenham.
“We have to fight for every game and every game we will try to win.
“We have to make a lot of points to be champion and that is what we will try to do.”
CANNOT WAIT
talkSPORT presenter Jason Cundy summed up the feeling of all neutrals about the game on a recent edition of Sports Bar.
“That game is going to be sensational, we cannot wait for that,” he said.
“It’s in both their hands and with goals scored it’s incredibly tight, there’s a game in it, Liverpool have a game in hand against Leeds, it’s in both of their hands.
“I’d rather us have a title race than be sitting here as we have done a few seasons now, getting to the end of February, beginning of March and going ‘it’s over’ – it’s not over, it’s far from over.
“I still think they’ll win it, I still think City, I’m not as comfortable saying it now as I was.
“They’re both brilliant sides, they’ve still got to go to City, it’s a game Liverpool really can’t afford to lose.”
