Jurgen Klopp believes his current Liverpool squad is the ‘strongest’ since he arrived at the club – and hinted that fringe stars may be sold this summer.
The Reds boss has admitted it is difficult to keep all his players happy, with the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino linked with Anfield exits as they seek regular game time.
Liverpool’s attacking options have improved following the arrival of Luis Diaz, pushing Origi and Minamino even further down the pecking order behind the Colombian, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.
However, Klopp insists he will keep his ‘core group together’ as he looks ahead to the transfer window.
The Reds boss told Sky Sports: “It is incredibly hard for him [Minamino] and for me as well because it is really tough these kind of things. Taki is in an incredible moment.”
He added: “It is unlikely with the size of the squad that we now stay exactly like this together.
“For sure, some of the players do not play often enough for their own understanding and we will see what will come in the summer and find solutions for those situations.
“The core of the group has to stay together. There is no doubt about that.”
Klopp added: “Football is always for now. But it is for tomorrow as well, that is what we have to make sure.”
Origi scored a stoppage-time winner at Wolves in December, and netted in the Champions League group stages against AC Milan, with five goals in his last 14 appearances for the club.
Minamino, meanwhile, has been in prolific goalscoring form when called upon. Despite netting nine times in all competitions this season, the Japan international failed to make the bench in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brighton.
Origi has been linked with a move to AC Milan and Leeds have registered their interest in Minamino.
Klopp hailed his squad’s strength in depth as the Reds continue to chase a historic quadruple this season, with the Carabao Cup already in the bag.
Asked if this is his strongest ever squad, Klopp said: “Of course, it is. Funnily enough, apart from Luis, it is the same squad that we had when we started the season.
“We had this strong squad, they were just unavailable. Now they are available. That makes it the squad that we always wanted to have.”
