Everton have reportedly contacted the Premier League to consult over player signings and new contracts to avoid breaching spending rules, which could see the club disciplined.
The Toffees have delayed the publication of their 2020/21 accounts as they look to balance the books, with spending rules altered due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Daily Mail, The Blues have discussed all major financial transactions with the Premier League since last year, with clubs only permitted to lose £105million over a three-year period.
Investment in stadia and infrastructure, women’s football and community projects are understood to exempt from the loss calculations, however.
With the club keen to reduce the threat of a potential breach, they are working closely with the Premier League and have volunteered to share financial information.
Everton have lost £252m over the last two years, and their anticipated accounts, which are set to be published later this mont,h mean they are expected to surpass £300m over the current three-year cycle.
Discounts for infrastructure spending and lost income due to COVID-19 are set to keep the club within the agreed limits.
Merseyside Council’s granting of planning permission for building work on the site at Bramley-Moore Dock is understood to have been crucial to this process.
After previously splashing the cash, Everton have reduced their spending having paid just £1.7million for Demarai Gray from Bayer Leverkusen, with four players also arriving on free transfers last summer.
Everton brought in Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko in January with both full-backs costing a combined £30m, but the pair were funded by the sale of Lucas Digne to Aston Villa.
The Premier League look to have taken a different approach to enforcing their spending rules than the EFL, who have previously imposed points deductions on Birmingham City, Derby County and Reading.
Everton will publish their accounts by the end of the month, and believe they are fully compliant with the Premier League.
They take on Newcastle on Thursday with a win paramount in their attempts to stay in the league, with goal difference only keeping them above the relegation zone as it stands.
