Several high ranking countries are at risk of missing out on the upcoming World Cup.

The UEFA qualification process is down to the play-offs with the likes of Wales, Scotland, Portugal and Italy looking to make it through.

There will be 11 teams in the play-offs but only THREE will make it to the World Cup.

The play-off fixtures are:

  • Portugal v Turkey
  • Scotland v Ukraine
  • Italy v North Macedonia
  • Poland (Russia eliminated following Ukraine invasion)
  • Sweden v Czech Republic
  • Wales v Austria

In the CONMEBOL, big guns Chile and Colombia are at risk of missing out and have work to do in their final few games.

Peru are currently fifth in the qualification table and would go into a play-off.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica are struggling to make it out of the CONCACAF qualification and Panama hold the advantage over them in the play-off spot.

Australia could miss out on the World Cup as they are currently in the play-off places in the AFC.

There are still two games to go for that confederation and the Aussies will be looking to leapfrog either Saudi Arabia or Japan.

The CAF qualifiers are down to their final round with five teams set to reach the World Cup.

There will be five matches held in late March to decide who will represent Africa in Qatar.

The play-off fixtures are:

  • Egypt v Senegal
  • Cameroon v Algeria
  • Ghana v Nigeria
  • DR Congo v Morocco
  • Mali v Tunisia
