The Arsenal goalkeeper has suffered a muscle injury and will likely miss England’s friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast as the club contact national team staff.

Ramsdale’s injury could be a major blow to Arsenal in their top four pursuit

In his place for the Gunners’ match against Aston Villa was Bernd Leno, he has usurped since joining from Sheffield United.

Ramsdale’s sole focus will now be getting himself fully fit for when his side are back in action next.

Their next game is against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday, April 4, and should he miss that, will hope to be back in goal against Brighton on Saturday, April 9.

Speaking on BT Sport, Arteta confirmed his injury.

“Aaron Ramsdale had a muscle injury and will be out for a few weeks,” he said.

On the same social media platform Ramsdale wrote: “Different view today. Nothing but love and support to my team @Arsenal #COYG”.

As Gunners fans hope he recovers quickly, it is a blow for Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate who has had a second player not be available through injury.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a hamstring injury and his manager Jurgen Klopp said he will be out for ‘weeks’.

Reece James is also a doubt, after Thomas Tuchel confirmed the Chelsea right-back is touch and go to feature in their FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough.

“We have Reece, Callum [Hudson-Odoi] and Andreas Christensen uncertain,” he said.

“Yes and no,” Tuchel replied when asked if he was surprised at the call-up.

“I would always call Reece up no matter what if I was the head coach of the England national team so I’m not surprised.

“Yesterday he was not match ready so let’s see what happens tomorrow.

“He comes now from nine weeks of injuries altogether and we have to do late tests to see if he can even do full training today and be match ready for tomorrow, which is a big doubt. If not, it makes no sense for him to go.”
