Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘unlike any other player in the world’ says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp who has revealed the defender is set for ‘weeks’ on the sidelines.
The right-back has suffered a hamstring injury which will see him miss England’s upcoming friendly games and, potentially, the huge Premier League title clash against Man City.
The Reds’ creator-in-chief has been instrumental this season with 17 assists in 35 games across all competitions, as the side continue to pursue an unprecedented quadruple.
His record in this campaign have been the best in his career to date and, whilst Klopp has options available as a replacement, none can provide the numbers Alexander-Arnold is able to going forward.
In his place, Joe Gomez or James Milner are likely to come in at right-back although if the Liverpool boss opts for youth he could also call upon 18-year-old Conor Bradley.
Speaking ahead of the Reds’ FA Cup quarter-final tie against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Klopp spoke about how much of a miss Alexander-Arnold will be.
“Trent is out with a hamstring, so he will cannot be part of England as well,” confirmed the Reds boss.
“No good news, so we will see how long that takes.”
Asked if he was looking at weeks out rather than days, Klopp replied: “Yes.
“We will see how long it will take but, of course, to replace Trent is difficult but possible. We always did it.
“The way he plays, I don’t know any player who plays like Trent in the world. So it will be difficult to find a one versus one replacement.
“We have Joe [Gomez]. Theoretically we can change the system as well. These kinds of things, so we have a couple of options, but you are right he is very influential.
“If you look in the past when Milly [Milner] had to step in he did incredibly well. Incredibly well. He just has to be available and then that is fine. I don’t know if he will [be available] for Sunday.
“Maybe we have a very young solution [Bradley] as well.”
