Chelsea’s two Champions League quarter-final legs against Real Madrid will not be reversed, UEFA has confirmed.

The Blues were initially drawn to host Madrid in the first leg before travelling to the Bernabeu, but there were reports the second leg could instead take place at Stamford Bridge.

This was because Real and Atletico Madrid were drawn to play at home on the same week, which is usually prohibited in Spain.

However, Goal reports that UEFA has confirmed the first leg will take place at Stamford Bridge and the second at the Bernabeu, as drawn.

Thomas Tuchel’s side face the prospect of playing home fixtures in Europe behind closed doors due to EU sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich – unless a new owner can be put in place beforehand.

Quarter-finals ties will be played on April 5/6 and April 12/13, before the semi-finals on April 26/27 and May 3/4.

Tuchel admitted travelling to the Bernabeu for the second leg would be tough.

The Blues boss said: “The challenge cannot be much higher than playing a second leg at the Bernabeu with spectators.

“It’s a big challenge and there’s also big excitement around this fixture.

“We know what’s coming. It’ll be an exciting match and a tough challenge.”

And the German hopes the Chelsea hierarchy can find a way to host supporters for the quarter-final clash.

The bidding window to take control of the Blues will close on Friday as the club look to appoint a new owner sooner rather than later.

Asked how the match would be affected without fans, Tuchel said: “It would be a disadvantage. In general, I think this game is for the spectators and the game changes so much with spectators

“So hopefully we find solutions. I’m pretty sure everybody at the club, the board, will fight for a chance.

“I don’t know how big the possibility is. The game, especially these games, but any game is for the spectators.

“It’s a different game when the crowd is in the stadium, so hopefully we make it happen somehow.”
