Barcelona have struck a huge sponsorship deal with music streaming giant Spotify, which includes naming rights to the Nou Camp.

Barca’s iconic stadium will be renamed the Spotify Nou Camp, while the sponsor’s logo will appear on the club’s shirts and training shirts from next season.

It is the first time the Nou Camp has carried a sponsor’s name with the deal being described as a ‘first-of-its-kind partnership for the club in bringing the worlds of music and football together’.

The deal includes a four-season deal for the men’s and women’s kits, three-season training kit agreement and a long-term stadium contract.

The specifics of the sponsorship deal have yet to be revealed, but it is likely to be a lucrative one amid struggling finances for the club.

Barcelona reported a loss of a loss of €481million (£409million) for the 2020/21 financial year, while club president Joan Laporta revealed debts had spiralled to €1.35billion (£1.15billion) in August.

Announcing the deal, Laporta said: “We are very proud to announce a pioneering alliance like this with a world-renowned organisation like Spotify.

“This partnership will allow us to continue to bring the club closer to its fans and make them feel even more part of the Barca family through unique experiences, combining the two activities such as entertainment and football, making it possible for us to connect with new audiences around the world.”

Spotify CEO and co-founder Daniel Ek is a Swedish billionaire and famous Arsenal fan.

In April 2021 expressed an interest in buying the club from current owner Stan Kroenke.

An offer thought to be worth around £1.8billion, though, was rejected.

He sought the help of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Patrick Vieira but was unable to tempt Kroenke Sports & Entertainment into a sale.

In May 2021 he tweeted: “Inaccurate reports emerged today saying I have not made a bid for Arsenal Football Club. I think it’s important to correct the record – this week an offer was made to both Josh Kroenke and their bankers that included fan ownership, representation at board and a golden share for the supporters.

“They replied that they don’t need the money. I respect their decision but remain interested and available should that situation ever change.”
