AC Milan are confident of securing a deal for Liverpool striker Divock Origi this summer.
The Belgium international has fallen even further down the pecking order at Anfield following the arrival of Luis Diaz.
Origi has never been a first-team regular for the Reds during his eight years at the club – but developed a reputation as one of football’s great super subs.
Among his famous goals is a Champions League final strike in 2018 and the winner in the 4-0 comeback victory over Barcelona in 2019.
Earlier this season, with Liverpool facing an injury crisis, the striker proved his enduring worth with three goals in as many games.
However, with Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino all available, it appears Origi’s services are no longer required.
Fabrizio Romano reports the 26-year-old will not sign a contract extension with the Reds and Milan are poised to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
It is understood the Italian giants have already made an offer – and Origi is free to agree a pre-contract deal with foreign clubs.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently admitted it is difficult to keep every player happy with such depth in his squad, particularly in forward areas.
He said: “It is unlikely with the size of the squad that we now stay exactly like this together.
“For sure, some of the players do not play often enough for their own understanding and we will see what will come in the summer and find solutions for those situations.
“The core of the group has to stay together. There is no doubt about that.”
