Ahead of the game, Cameron’s mother posted on Twitter stating her son needs bones removed from from each of his legs in order to straighten them.

Tony Smith, who is training the youngster, posted an appeal on Twitter to make his hero, Tierney, aware of the hard work he has been putting in.

“I have been training Cameron for months now, he is incredibly hard working and loves Arsenal,” Smith wrote.

“He has got tickets to the disability section for Wednesday’s game v Liverpool and it would mean the world to him if he could meet [Tierney].”

It caught Tierney’s attention and he posted a response, saying: “Cameron you are an inspiration. I would love to meet you before the game. What a hero. Let’s get that sorted.”

And the club captured the heartwarming exchange where Tierney handed over his match shirt, which he signed and apologised for not being able to get the win against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Cameron didn’t mind and had a gift of his own for the Arsenal no.3 – a shirt of his, which he signed.

Tierney appeared delighted with his present as he posed for photos holding it and gave the young man a hug.

“Any game you want to come to, just let me know,” he told the family before leaving, asking to be kept informed in how the surgery goes.

When he had left, Cameron couldn’t contain his excitement at the encounter he is likely to never forget.

On the pitch, Arsenal were keen on stretching their Premier League winning run to six matches and consolidate their hold on a place in the top four, but Liverpool came up with the goods to secure victory.

The Gunners are still in fourth place but sit just one point above rivals Manchester United, with West Ham sitting three behind.
