Leeds United supporters want Marcelo Bielsa to be awarded the city’s highest civic honour.
The Argentine put himself into club folklore by ending their 16-year exile from the Premier League in 2020.
Although it ended sadly for the 66-year-old, being sacked by the club on February 27, he gave the fans some incredible memories.
He oversaw them to a ninth place finish in 2020/21 which included a major scalp over Manchester City and Tottenham, as well as draws against Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal.
And because of that, the Leeds United Support Network (LUSN), which represents nearly 7,000 fans, want to see given the freedom of the city.
They said that not only did he achieve success domestically, but assist the club in establishing a global reputation.
Vice chair Clive Miers said: “Too often the Freedom of the City of Leeds has been granted to those that have a mere fleeting connection with the City.
“In extraordinary times, Marcelo Bielsa, a man without hubris, has changed the worldwide perception of the city of Leeds and that of Leeds United beyond recognition, with his compassion, decency, and commitment.
“We were not only entertained, we grew from his inspiration.”
A statement also read: “Leeds United Supporters Network have called for Marcelo Bielsa to be awarded the Freedom of City of Leeds for his work in not only restoring Leeds United to the Premier League, but also alleviating the spirits and hope of a city in the darkest and most challenging times of the pandemic.
“He achieved this with humility, fairness and compassion in a sport watched by billions across the globe.
“For the watching world, the City of Leeds has become synonymous with fair play, integrity and entertainment.”
