Harry Kane becomes Premier League’s record away goalscorer as he surpasses Wayne Rooney’s tally in Tottenham win at Brighton

Harry Kane has now scored more away goals than any other player in Premier League history after finding the net in Tottenham’s 2-0 win at Brighton on Wednesday night.

The talismanic striker continued his strong run of form by doubling the lead initially afforded to Spurs by Cristian Romero, who scored his first ever goal for the club.

Kane now has 95 away goals in 139 appearances, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s tally of 94.

It is worth noting too that Rooney scored his 94 in a total of 243 appearances – 104 more than it’s taken Kane.

Alan Shearer sits third on the away goals list with 87, while Frank Lampard has 85.

Kane’s goal at Brighton also saw him overtake Lampard into fifth position on the Premier League’s all-time goalscorers list (both home and away).

He has 178 total, while the Chelsea legend netted 177 in his career.

The match itself was a drab encounter on the south coast early on, but Spurs forged ahead in the 37th minute thanks to a large slice of luck.

Dejan Kulusevski’s effort deflected off teammate Cristian Romero and wrong-footed Roberto Sanchez.

Kulusevski missed a big chance to make it 2-0 as he was denied by Sanchez when clean through on goal as Spurs went in with a narrow lead.

Spurs did double their lead three minutes before the hour mark with a devastating counter-attack.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg won the ball on the edge of his own area, fed Rodgrigo Bentancur, who drove forward before playing in Kane to finish in typical style.

At the start of the match, Kane missed a sitter to break the away scoring record and so was happy to make amends.

There were no further goals and the game ended 2-0.
