But quickly things dissipated and no action was taken by the referee.
Five minutes in the second period, Kane opened the scoring as he turned home after excellent work from Son.
But the match ended all-square when former Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic rifled in a stunning strike from just outside the box.
Both sides heavily rotated during the match but Eric Dier put in a superb stint for Spurs, playing all game and putting in a crucial first-half tackle.
