Diogo Jota has suffered a fresh setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Liverpool star picked up the problem while on international duty with Portugal in June, which saw him miss their pre-season opener against Manchester United.
He only returned to training with the Reds – who are now in Singapore on their pre-season tour – on Wednesday, but manager Jurgen Klopp fears the 25-year-old has aggravated the problem.
Speaking at the Singapore National Stadium, where the Reds face Crystal Palace in a pre-season friendly on Friday, Klopp told the club’s official website: “Diogo is unlucky.
“Diogo was not involved [against Man United] because of an injury he got at the end of his season.
“He trained yesterday fully and got injured again, so that’s really not cool, but we have to wait for the results. He had further assessment this morning [Thursday], so we have to see.”
Asked if the hamstring was the issue, the German added: “We will see. The same region, yes.”
Meanwhile, Klopp revealed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is also a doubt.
He said: “Ali was not 100 per cent. He finished the session earlier, was doing the warming up and felt something so now there we have to wait as well. I think pretty much all the others are fine, so that’s it.”
Klopp’s side lost 4-0 to arch rivals United in Bangkok on Tuesday and will be hoping for a much better performance against Palace on Friday.
Their final two games before competitive action are trips to RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.
The Reds will then do battle with Man City once again in the Community Shield on July 30 in the English season’s traditional curtain raiser.
That game has been moved from Wembley to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium this year, with Liverpool then getting their league campaign underway at Fulham on August 6.
