Manchester United are confident their latest offer for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez will be accepted and that they can tie up the signing quickly, talkSPORT understands.
The Red Devils are willing to pay £42million including add-ons to reunite Martinez with Erik ten Hag.
The Ajax board are meeting on Friday to discuss the bid, having already lost key men Sebastien Haller to Borussia Dortmund and Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to Bayern Munich.
The Red Devils hope the Ajax connection between Martinez and Ten Hag will give them an edge over Arsenal, who also hold an interest in the Argentina defender.
The duo have won back-to-back Dutch top-flight titles together over the last two seasons.
The 24-year-old can also play as a defensive midfielder, which is where he could be set to play at Old Trafford unless he gets in at centre-back ahead of Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire.
The Red Devils have already signed one player from the Eredivise this summer, after left-back Tyrell Malacia signed from Feyenoord for £13m.
And a deal for free agent Christian Eriksen is all but done, with the Dane set to arrive on a three-year deal, after a successful spell at Brentford last season.
Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder Frenkie de Jong also remains linked with a £56m move to Old Trafford, but they face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The Blues are also said to be interested in Man United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who has told the club he wants to leave this summer.
