Manchester City will face title rivals Liverpool in the Community Shield as the curtain raiser to the 2022/23 season.
The two top teams from last year will do battle once more in a bid to win the first silverware of the campaign ahead of the Premier League returning.
City edged out the Reds to the title last year, while Jurgen Klopp’s men were victorious in the FA Cup.
Both sides were almost perfect last season, and they have also been active in the transfer market.
The defending champions have recruited Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips, while the Reds have signed Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho.
This match could be the ideal opportunity for City and Liverpool fans to see their new faces in the flesh for the first time.
The Community Shield is part of the pre-season schedule, but whenever these two meet, there are fireworks, and it would be a surprise if it were any different this time around, especially with all of the new additions.

It will be held at Leicester’s King Power Stadium.
The referee for the match will Craig Pawson while John Brooks will be on VAR duty.

Both sides have only just returned to pre-season training, so it remains to be seen which players will be available and who will miss out.
City have no long-term injuries to worry about and neither do the Reds.
Both sides are still waiting for many players to return from their holidays after participating in June internationals, and they will hope no one returns unfit.
But this game could be when we all finally see the likes of Haaland and Nunez.
Both clubs have splashed out on two new strikers, and what better way to test them than up against the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ruben Dias.
We could also see Phillips, Ramsay and Carvalho as Klopp and Guardiola look to introduce their new signings into the fold.

“Obviously, I got into the England squad as well and done really well there and I’m very appreciative of what I’ve done at Leeds and everyone I’ve been around.
“I just want to test myself on the next step with players who have an unbelievable work ethic and an unbelievable manager as well.
“The quality of the players City have got, the way that they play and the way that they pass the ball around is an unbelievable style of play.
“It’s something I’ve always been attracted to.”
New Liverpool man Darwin Nunez: “I’ve played against Liverpool and I’ve seen them in lots of games in the Champions League, and it’s my style of play.
“There are some great players here and I think it’s going to suit my style of play here. As I say, I’ve watched quite a lot and it’s a very big club and I hope I can give everything that I’ve got in order to help the team.”
