Barcelona may have entered the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo with the player’s agent understood to have met with the club’s president.
Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United has been thrown into huge doubt amid reports he has asked to leave the club as he wants to play for a club competing in next season’s Champions League.
Chelsea have been heavily linked with the Portuguese star, with new owner Todd Boehly understood to be pondering a Galactico style summer window with Raheem Sterling also set to complete a move from Manchester City.
However, Spanish outlet AS reports that Barcelona are interested in securing Ronaldo’s services.
Jorge Mendes, who represents Ronaldo, also has the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ruben Neves on his books but the report says Ronaldo’s availability was discussed in his meeting with Barca president Joan Laporta.
It’s understood Barcelona were interested in bringing Ronaldo on board last summer but their delicate financial situation prevented them from mounting a serious bid.
However, it could also be a ploy to up the ante with Bayern Munich as they try to finalise a deal to sign striker Robert Lewandowski, who is understood to be Barcelona’s priority signing up front.
Chelsea will certainly hope this is the case having had their bid for Leeds star Raphinha hijacked by the LaLiga giants.
talkSPORT understands that the Red Devils are adamant that he won’t be leaving with one year left on his contract, however, his absence from training on Monday due to ‘family reasons’ has added fuel to the fire as his future becomes a huge topic of conversation.
Man United fans will feel nervous about the prospect of seeing one of their greatest ever players go.
However, talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy suggested Ronaldo leaving could be a ‘blessing in disguise’ for Erik ten Hag’s men.
